Voyageurs National Park, in north central Minnesota, covers 218,000 acres, and water accounts for 84,000 of them.

Those numbers help explain why the state's only national park hosts wolves, eagles, loons and moose -- but few human visitors. Only about a quarter of a million people visit annually, a fraction compared with the 9 million who romp through Great Smoky National Park each year.

06/18/2010 - Air and water pollution emissions changed little between 2007-8, according to an annual report released this spring by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).  A slowing economy was in part responsible for the lack of change in pollution releases.

03/10/2010 - Governor Pawlenty’s proposed reductions and fund shifts for the state’s 2010 and 2011 budgets run afoul of what voters approved at the polls in November 2008, Conservation Minnesota reported today.

01/21/2010 - Good news for Minnesotans:  our budget analysis shows that the Governor and Legislature kept faith with voters in 2009 on conservation funding in the new Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. As promised to voters who supported the Amendment, our state elected officials did not raid the new funding by diverting it to other purposes.  They also kept a promise not to cut other conservation funds disproportionately.

01/21/2010 - Governor Tim Pawlenty and the Legislature kept faith with voter intent and the state constitution in the first year of conservation funding under the 2008 Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, an independent analysis by Conservation Minnesota reported today.
