Lutsen Mountains is the sponsor of the Favorite Places feature on Conservation Minnesota’s website.
Minnesotans love their out-of-doors and exploring this great state is something we love to do. The Favorite Places web feature is a handy way to share your favorites and to find outstanding outdoor opportunities you may have overlooked. It reflects our joint commitment to the idea that each person who gets out and enjoys our lakes, woods, and wildlife, can be a partner in protecting the Minnesota we all love.
For over sixty years Lutsen has had the topography to lay claim to the largest ski area in the Midwest. And being the premier destination ski area in the Midwest means constant improvements and continual transformation. Lutsen’s 1,000 acres, 92 ski runs on four sprawling mountains with spectacular views of Lake Superior is why we are stewards of one of Minnesota’s favorite places in this place we call home.
We’ve led the efforts to address water quality issues affecting the Poplar River running through the heart of our ski area. Through the Poplar River Management Board, $1.6 million in public and private funds have been invested in mitigation projects and more are in the works. We also led the effort to move our snowmaking operations off the Poplar River, a designated trout stream. And we are investing in state of the art snowmaking guns that save energy and water. These are all part of our commitment to preserve the outdoor experience for generations to come.
We welcome you to explore all we have to offer and discover some new favorite places of your own.
