Thousands of Minnesotans like you have told us that protecting our drinking water, our lakes and our rivers from contamination by pesticides and agricultural runoff is a top priority. This is clearly a critical issue facing Minnesota and one that we must address now. I want you to know that Conservation Minnesota is working hard this year to protect our waters from agriculture runoff.
- We are working to pass the Clean Water Legacy Effectiveness Act that requires the state to set priorities for water cleanup, requires water cleanup plans to have clear goals and benchmarks so that the public can easily see if state strategies are working, and eliminate conflicts of interest in the process.
- We are supporting proposals to redirect $10 million that once were used for ethanol subsidies to create a grant program aimed at improving water quality near cropland.
- We are pushing for increased protections and better management of the state’s groundwater to avoid continued catastrophes, like the draining of White Bear Lake and the depletion of groundwater resources in southwestern Minnesota.
Today, you can make a big difference in just a couple of minutes. Please send a message to your State Representative and State Senator, asking them to help protect Minnesota’s lakes, rivers and drinking water. Follow the link here and send the pre-written letter, but feel free to add your own message as well.
Thanks so much for your help. Together we can protect the Minnesota you love.
