Minnesota took a landmark step toward tackling the climate crisis with the passage of the 100% Clean Energy Standard. It requires all MN electric utilities to produce only carbon-free energy by 2040 using sources like solar, wind, and battery storage. Changes are being proposed at the state legislature that will create exemptions and weaken the standard. Ask your legislators to uphold the 100% Standard. Now is not the time to back down on our progress.
Minnesota voters passed a state amendment to renew lottery funds to support the Great Outdoors. With this, a new Community Grants Program was designed to simplify the grant process and unlock funding for smaller communities and groups. Rural townships, villages, smaller cities and local non-profits are some examples of organizations whose work will be powered by this new program.
Ask legislators to ensure the process remains fair and accessible to smaller communities and organizations.
On January 1, 2025, Minnesota’s ban on the sale of certain products, including cosmetics, cookware, children's products, and cleaning supplies, that contain intentionally added PFAS went into effect. Even tiny amounts of these harmful chemicals have been linked to cancer, liver damage, and immune system deficiencies. Industry groups are now actively working to undo the progress that has been made and place political pressure to grant exemptions or allow lenient enforcement. Legislators need to know that their constituents expect them to prioritize people over profits.
