Federal Changes to AmeriCorps

For the past three years, Conservation Minnesota has been proud to host AmeriCorps members across our state through the Climate Impact Corps—we call them our Community Stewards. By organizing local events and building relationships, they bring Minnesotans together to learn about and take action on conservation issues that matter most in their own communities. Today, 11 team members are making a real difference in communities across Duluth, Bemidji, Moorhead, Saint Cloud, Rochester, and Winona

In just their most recent service term, these members organized more than 130 events, engaging over 5,000 individuals, and collaborating with more than 350 organizations and businesses statewide. The events are as unique as the needs of each of the six communities. They’ve picked up trash and removed invasive buckthorn, hosted environmental book clubs, and taught classes on eco-friendly meals. Their work has had a powerful and far-reaching impact.

Unfortunately, due to changes in federal priorities, this program will end in July.

This loss is not only disappointing—it’s a step backward for communities and conservation efforts across Minnesota.

Despite this setback, Conservation Minnesota is committed to finding ways to continue to engage with the communities impacted by the loss of the program. As a statewide organization, we know how essential strong local connections are to advancing conservation solutions and improving opportunities for future generations.
