Conservation Minnesota recognized as an Infrastructure Champion by LIUNA

We were honored to be named an Infrastructure Champion by LIUNA Minnesota & North Dakota for our work supporting safe drinking water and the replacement of lead pipes in our state. All Minnesotans deserve clean water to drink and Minnesota workers are making that a reality.

Following a 2019 Department of Health report highlighting the risks of drinking water from lead pipes, we partnered with LIUNA and the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities to form a diverse and pragmatic coalition, bringing together a collection of constituencies the state legislature could not ignore.

In 2023, after several years of funding attempts, education campaigns and advocacy—when Minnesota had an estimated 100,000 or more lead service lines—the governor and legislative leaders announced $240 million to inventory and replace the lead lines in our state. The Lead Service Line Replacement Bill sets a goal to replace all lead water lines by 2033. Read more about these efforts in Clean Drinking Water for All Minnesotans

We're honored to be recognized by our friends at LIUNA, and we're committed to continuing to advocate for this important change until every last lead line in Minnesota is replaced.
