Senate voted No
| April 14, 2021
About this Legislation
Chief Author

Establishing greenhouse gas emission-reduction goals, from 30% by 2025 to net zero by 2050 in SF 972

Under Minnesota Statutes, greenhouse gas emissions-reduction goals are in place to guide investments in clean energy technologies and implement responsible policy on wider emissions reductions across our economy. This amendment raises greenhouse gas emission reduction goals so that Minnesota meets the crucial benchmark of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Status

The amendment failed, and state goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions were not included in the Senate’s Energy & Commerce Omnibus bill. The bill now proceeds to Conference Committee to be combined with the House’s version of the bill, which did include this goal.

What a no means

A "no" vote means improved greenhouse gas reduction goals were not included in SF 972.

What a yes would have meant

A "yes" vote would have included improved greenhouse gas reduction goals in SF 972 so that Minnesota's economy wide emissions are net zero by the year 2050.
