About this Legislation
Co-author(s)

Climate change is already here, creating worsening consequences for our environment and the Minnesotans who rely on it. In order to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, our state must greatly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. This amendment encourages the MPCA to address greenhouse gases using sustainable energy sources and waste disposal methods, air pollution rules and standards, and permitting regulation.

Status

The amendment failed and greenhouse gas emissions reduction tools were not included in the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Omnibus bill.

What a no means

A "no" vote rejects the inclusion of greenhouse gas emissions reduction tools in SF 4062, leaving the MPCA without certain pathways for addressing climate change.

What a yes would have meant

A "yes" vote directs the MPCA to promote the use of energy sources and waste disposal methods that produce the least greenhouse gases, encourages the agency to adopt greenhouse gas standards, and allows for permit regulation based on greenhouse gas emissions.
